So this is the partial tally of the votes in the place where my old boarding school stands.

Apart from the fact that they have been governing over the 4th district for generations and the region still has yet to live in its fullest potential, I don’t have much against the Fuentebellas. I mean, I’m so used to political dynasties now that I don’t have a problem with them anymore. (Relatively, of course, since there are bigger problems that we should focus on. I still think though that people shouldn’t fall into the trap of trusting candidates solely because they bear a household name. *coughs* Binay *coughs* )

But come on.. Aga Muhlach? I honestly don’t know about these actors-turned-politicians. However, I am not one to bash a person even before he takes his seat in the congress so I won’t criticize him on a final note just yet.

I’m very curious to see how things will go, but I have to admit that I am a bit skeptical as to whether Filipinos have really learned their lesson on elections, or whether this can even possibly be a result of intellectual voting.

Dear Mommy,

I am dedicating this post to you right now not only because it is your name that is written on the piece of paper that legalizes my existence, but also because it was from that moment when a hospital clerk typed in our names in this very birth certificate that I was blessed to have you as my guardian for the entirety of my whole life.

I don’t think you know how thankful I am that you’re my mom. You’re someone I can completely count on and you are my source of unconditional love. Thank you so much for everything, even though I know that words are not enough to reciprocate my gratitude that I hold nor the praise that you deserve.

I don’t have many regrets in life, and I think I got this stubborn optimism from you. You always told me that there are no limits as long as there is willpower, and you set yourself as the perfect example. I do, however, regret that we never bonded completely. I always wished that my mom was my best friend too, or at least that I spent more time with you. Fortunately, I know that it’s not too late so you can expect that I work more on our relationship when I get back home!

“El Dunya: The Filipino Invasion”

According to their website, “El Dunya is a global culture festival with music, dance, theater and market stalls with handmade products and an international kitchen.” Basically they aimed to mimic going to a trip around the world! And what good would a trip like that be if there wasn’t a stop in the Philippines, right?

So Dieneke, Asad and I went to see the Filipino performances including Banga Salidsid, Tinikling, Salakot and Itik-Itik! I also saw my Filipino Self Taught tutor there by accident!

Afterwards, with my fan mode on and a very makapal na mukha, I went up and talked to the performers themselves! I told them that I’d love to join them some time in their other activities, so you’ll definitely see more of these beautiful, short and tan people (with their Dutch hubbies too!). :)

The Pocketbook

This is Kavya, my Indian friend at school. I was looking for a place to work in the library but I could not because all of the tables were occupied. As the finals of the second years approach day by day, more and more of them frequent the library. Anyway, I was busy reading my dreadful TOK passages for homework when I saw her busily reading away. From my point of view, it looked like she was reading a novel of some sort. I asked her if it was for her English Literature class since it was notorious for numerous book assignments. She said “It’s not” with a smile. I looked again, and I was a bit shocked. She held in her hands a pocket book.
Wow. I cannot even remember the last time that I used that word. I suddenly missed those days when all I’d do was read, read and read. I’d skip meals for the Harry Potter series. I’d bring my Archie book everywhere with me, even to the toilet! I’d get back pains from the nonstop reading of the lengthy Harry Potter novels. My father would reprimand me for staying awake ‘till three am reading Nancy Drew kick butt. I’d wonder about my teenage years from Sweet Valley High. My heart would skip a beat from The Princess Diaries. And this list could go on forever.
I don’t know. Nowadays, I don’t have time to read these leisurely books anymore. I kind of miss it.
